Here’s the deal: I have a love/hate relationship with social media. You guys know this! We’ve chatted before about my Facebook addiction! Honestly, when I say love/hate, I mostly just mean hate. Not today, though. Today, I love it. Today I am reminded that what matters isn’t the THING it’s what we DO with the thing.
I mentioned in passing (on Facebook) that we didn’t have a nativity. So, someone MADE ONE for our family. Like, she used her hands to make a thing. My craftless brain does not understand. Like, whaaaa? This was once plain, brown wood and now it’s a group of people (and a couple of sheep and a cow). Like, people make things?! What?
First of all, this nativity is EXACTLY my style. I couldn’t have picked a better one. In fact, I WOULDN’T have. I would have gone out and bought an elaborate glass set or something because I do not recognize my style until I’m accidentally presented with it.
Second of all, this is EXACTLY what it means to love and serve your neighbor. This is exactly what that looks like. Loving and serving our neighbor can sound like such daunting work, but the truth is, all we have to do is look around because we are presented with opportunities to SEE our neighbor EVERY SINGLE DAY—even on social media!
Now, we all know I cannot make a nativity set, but I CAN share words of encouragement. It is good and right and just to go out into the world and love your neighbor, but sometimes, your neighbor is right in front of you and you don’t even have to move, you just have to look. So, get out there and love your neighbor, village members!
PS- Your neighbor is everyone.
